Source policy

Company knowledge before web and model, blocked and allowed websites, where each answer comes from.

Owners and admins decide under Administration → Source policy what Kasimir relies on: your company knowledge first or exclusively – and which websites are never used as a source. The setting applies to the whole company. An agent can only tighten it for itself, never loosen it.

Source priority

Setting

What Kasimir does

Open (default)

Company knowledge is used when it is switched on in the chat under Knowledge sources → Company knowledge. Kasimir uses web search as needed.

Company knowledge first

Every chat request automatically searches the company knowledge the person may see – nobody has to switch anything on. Web and general knowledge are only a supplement and are labeled as such in the answer.

Company knowledge only

No web search. Factual statements rely only on company knowledge, attachments and the conversation. If nothing is found, Kasimir says so instead of guessing.

Which documents are included automatically:

  • Regular chat: everything the person may see – company-wide documents, their own files and team files.

  • Project chat: company-wide documents and the documents of this project. Their own or team files only if the person selects them explicitly in the chat – other project members read the chat too.

  • Kasimir only takes passages that match the question. Unrelated hits stay out.

A little slower, but backed by sources

With “Company knowledge first” and “Company knowledge only”, company knowledge is searched on every message. Answers therefore start a little later and use more context.

The priority applies to chats and agents – including agents that another agent calls as a helper. It does not apply to workflows: there you set the sources in each step.

Blocked and allowed websites

  • Blocked websites: the AI never uses results or pages from these domains as a source. A domain also blocks its subdomains: example.com also blocks www.example.com and press.example.com. Other domains with a similar name stay open: wikipedia.org does not block wikipedia.de – add both if needed.

  • Only these websites (optional): empty means all websites except the blocked ones. With entries, Kasimir searches and reads only these domains.

The lists apply to every web access by the AI: web search in the chat, reading links someone pastes into the chat, agents and their helpers, AI steps in workflows (including their mandatory sources) and the web search node. Not affected are the HTTP node and integrations such as Microsoft 365 or Nextcloud.

Enter domains, for example example.com. A pasted address is shortened to its domain, and domains with umlauts work. The company can store up to 200 entries per list, an agent up to 50.

When several lists come together

The company, an agent and a workflow step can each have their own lists. Kasimir combines them strictly:

  • Blocks add up.

  • Allowed lists are intersected: only what is allowed everywhere stays allowed.

  • A block beats any allowance.

  • If no domain is left after the intersection, there is no web access.

When in doubt, no web

If Kasimir cannot read the policy, the chat answers without the web, and an affected workflow step stops with a message – never unfiltered.

Agents tighten the policy

The agent editor has a Sources card. There you choose a stricter priority for this agent, block additional websites or set its own allowed list. Loosening is not possible: a stricter company setting always applies. Changes take effect with the next publish.

How to tell where an answer comes from

If a priority is set or something was hidden, a provenance line appears below the answer:

Note

Meaning

Company knowledge used · 3 sources

The answer relies on company knowledge. Open the evidence via “Sources” in the bar below the answer.

Company knowledge and web used

Company knowledge, supplemented by web results.

No company source found · answer relies on the web

Nothing matching was in the company knowledge; the answer is based on web results.

No company source used

With “Company knowledge first”: neither company knowledge nor the web contributed.

No company source found (orange)

With “Company knowledge only”: Kasimir found nothing and says so in the answer.

4 results hidden by the source policy

This many search results or pages were filtered out by the blocked or allowed list.

How Kasimir reads and cites documents is explained in How Kasimir uses your knowledge.

Stance and tone

The source policy decides about sources, not opinions. A desired stance, tone or wording belongs in the System prompt addendum under Chat settings. It applies in every chat and in scheduled tasks, also together with an agent.

Platform rule for everyone

For every company, regardless of any setting:

  • Kasimir does not invent facts or quotes.

  • Verbatim quotes and source references only appear if they are in an available source – a document, a search result or a message.

  • Kasimir never claims a search or a source that did not happen.

  • Opinions are presented as opinions.

This rule cannot be switched off.

What the policy does not do

  • It controls which sources Kasimir fetches – not what the language model knows from its training.

  • It works on websites, not topics: third-party reports about a blocked organization remain visible.

Examples

  • Manual before internet: a machine builder wants service questions answered from its own maintenance manuals first. Setting: Company knowledge first.

  • Official sources only: a public authority allows only bund.de, destatis.de and europa.eu. Setting: these three under Only these websites.

  • Without a specific provider: a company never wants a competitor's content as a source. Setting: that domain under Blocked websites.

Traceable

Every change to the policy appears in your company's audit log (Administration → Security) as “Source policy changed”.
