How Kasimir uses your knowledge
Understand knowledge types, Indexed vs. Live, and source citations.
Kasimir answers questions from your own knowledge — and always shows you where an answer comes from. This page explains the knowledge types, the two modes for external folders, and the source citations under answers.
The three knowledge types
Notebook — pages you write yourselves (guidelines, glossaries, company facts). Pages marked "always include" flow into every answer.
External sources — folders from your cloud services (Nextcloud, ownCloud, Microsoft 365, Google Drive) connected as knowledge.
Documents — uploaded files, company-wide or in projects.
The "Knowledge sources" button next to the chat input shows which sources a given chat uses — including the time of the last sync.
External folders: Indexed or Live?
Both modes find content by meaning. The difference lies elsewhere:
Indexed (recommended) | Live | |
|---|---|---|
Source citations | page-precise and clickable in every answer | none |
Freshness | as of the last sync | as of this second |
Size | entire libraries | max. 300 files |
Speed | instant | slightly slower per question |
Rule of thumb: knowledge bases (norms, manuals, contracts) → Indexed. Small working folders that change by the minute → Live.
How to tell how an answer was produced
Under every document-based answer you'll find a badge:
Full context — the documents were small enough to be read in full.
Relevant passages — Kasimir picked the most relevant passages per question.
Either way, the "Sources" panel below lists numbered references with filename, page and excerpt. The [1] [2] markers in the answer and the panel entries are clickable — PDFs open right at the cited page.
When files are missing
Not every file can become knowledge: images without text, very large files, or unknown formats are skipped during sync. The sources overview explains this in plain language (e.g. "3 files not imported: 2 not readable, 1 too large").
